The DePaul Activities Board is hosting two events for this evening, both of which are to be held at the Student Center in Lincoln Park. Starting at 7 in the Multipurpose Room will be the Comedy Showcase, which features some of Chicago's best emerging stand-up comics. Providing the talent for this edition semi-regular event is The Edge Comedy Club (who makes their home at The Chicago Center for the Performing Arts in the River West neighborhood). Having attending past Comedy Showcases, and I'd highly recommend the event. The comedians DAB has brought in the past have varied greatly in style, from Dane Cook-esque raunch to wry observations on urban life.
Shortly after the Comedy Showcase (which should end around 8), DAB will host their bi-weekly Open Mic in the lounge area across the hall (it's the glassed-in area connected to Brownstone's). The performers at DePaul's Open Mic Nights vary significantly from one week to the next. In the past, there have been singer-songwriters, rappers, poets, comedians, and one young man who pantomimed the first several chapters of R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet". Any students wishing to perform in front of their peers this evening should plan on getting there early, the sign-up sheet fills up pretty quickly!
