FEST, DePaul's big annual concert that takes places each Spring, will be on May 29th this year. Last year's show, which featured Jack's Mannequin; Common; and Girl Talk was a lot of fun (even though it had to be moved indoors due to bad weather).
The DePaul Activities Board has created a facebook group to drum up interest for the hotly-anticipated event. The group has a discussion board where DePaul students have started discussing who they'd like to see at the show.
A lot of people in the discussion board seem keen on the idea of having Fall Out Boy play FEST this year. Without trying to insult anyone's musical preferences, I can't envision a scenario in which Fall Out Boy play. The past two years have had a less-established singer-songwriter as the opener (Ben Kweller in 2007, A Fine Frenzy in 2008), a modestly popular pop-punk band as the second band (The Starting Line in '07, Jack's Mannequin last year), and an established hip-hop artist as the headliner (The Roots & Lupe Fiasco in '07, and Common in '08). Maybe it's just me, but I think Fall Out Boy would be difficult to book, and might charge more money than DAB is willing to spend. That's just my opinion, though.
As in years past, DAB plans to conduct a somewhat more formal survey to help determine who will play FEST this year. I'm not sure when exactly that'll be, but joining the facebook group is probably the best way to stay up to date on it. While you're at it, I'd recommend sounding off in the discussion board about what bands you want to see at FEST 2009!
