We all need some Elbo Room...

Regular frequenters of the Thursday night performances in the Brownstone's annex will be familiar with senior Ryan Schwalm's music. For a little over a year, Schwalm has been putting on acoustic shows at Brownstones and drawing quite a crowd. Tomorrow night, he will play his first show at a "real" Chicago venue, the Elbo Room, at 2871 N. Lincoln.

Schwalm's set is scheduled from 8:30 to 9:00 p.m., and he plans on playing mostly original songs. Still, we can always hold out hope for one of those John Mayer or Beatles covers that make listening to Schwalm so much fun. In the Facebook event Schwalm says he would love to see some familiar faces in the crowd, but new ones are always welcome. In fact, if he can't draw a crowd of at least ten people, the Elbo Room might not invite him back to play again.

Here is a clip I found on YouTube of Schwalm performing at Brownstone's last spring...

If you don't have any plans for Wednesday night, you should definitely head out to the Elbo Room to check him out! There are other bands scheduled to play after Schwalm, so it could definitely be worth it to support a fellow DePaul student and hear some new music at the same time. The Elbo Room is strictly 21+, though, so underage fans will have to wait for a future show.

It would make Schwalm's day if a decent crowd came out for his first show. "I promise with every ounce of my creative power that I will make this a worth while show," he said.
