D.A.B. Concert Series

The third installment of the DePaul Activities Board's Concert Series will be taking place this evening at 7:30 PM. It's in Room 120 in Lincoln Park's Student Center (that's the big multipurpose room on the lower floor).

Performing first will be Ezra Furman of Ezra Furman & the Harpoons. Ezra's a Chicago singer/songwriter whose charming, youthful pop tunes are reminiscent of the Violent Femmes and early Warren Zevon (click the link to go to his band's myspace and check out a few tunes. I recommend "I Wanna Be Ignored"). Ezra's next gig will be a full-band show at American University in Washington, D.C. on January 23rd in honor of President-elect Obama's inauguration.

After Ezra's set, stick around for headliners The Republic Tigers. If some of their songs sound familiar, don't be suprised. A number of songs from their most recent record "Keep Color" have been featured on hit TV shows like Gossip Girl, Chuck, and Grey's Anatomy. Their spacey-sounding alternative songs should appeal to fans of The Flaming Lips and The Shins. If you like what you hear, you can also catch them tomorrow night (January 14th) at Schuba's as part of the Tomorrow Never Knows Festival. That show begins at 9 PM.

The show will end by 11 PM, so anyone who's already a little stressed from homework and studying should definitely consider stopping over at the student center to take a break and enjoy some good music from these up-and-coming musicians!

  1. I went to this last night! It was really awesome. That Ezra is alittle out there, but I think that just adds to his persona, haha. I definitely liked his set the best. A little bit Bright Eyes meets...I don't really know...a sugar high? Anyways, very, very tight songwriting.

Of course the Tigers were pretty sweet as well, they had very intense beats.

And free pizza is always nice.

    Always.
